MAGNM Central Office
The Dual Star Advantage
Enablence’s award winning MAGNM™ Multi Media Aggregation Node and BroadAccess Multi-Service Access Platform product line has the horsepower under the hood service providers need to introduce improved services while maintaining traditional service packages for some subscribers.
MAGNM is available in three sizes that feature a variety of port densities and subscriber capacity options, with up to 144 ports for GPON, 432 for Active Ethernet and 864 for POTS or ADSL+2, as well as 8 10G and 12 1G Ethernet uplink ports.

Whether it is the “pizza box” configurations of the Broadband Access Switch, the MAGNM 10, or the full-size MAGNM 20, service providers have the choice and flexibility they need whether or not they choose to evolve to an advanced all IP/Ethernet Next Generation copper or hybrid fiber/copper network, or to an all-optical Access Network.
MAGNM features Enablence’s industry leading carrier-grade non-blocking architecture, called Dual Star.
With Dual Star, the access technology is separated from the transport technology on the backplane of the chassis. The backplane contains a pair of dedicated line (or transport) cards that are designed to take in the fiber-optic transport connection from the outside world and to provide transport protection in the event of a fiber optic cut or blade failure by proving two transport links to each customer facing service cards. The remaining slots on the backplane are populated by customer facing services cards.
This is a dramatic difference from other older technologies on the market today, in which transport and access are integrated onto individual cards that are physically as well as logically strung in serial fashion from one to the next. In a serial architecture, if any one of these cards fails, it will disrupt the entire network.
