Hybrid Networks

Achieving Profitable Co-Existence between Copper or Coax and Fiber

For some service providers eager to bring the benefits of a Next-Generation Access Network to their subscribers, a large-scale fiber-to-the-premises deployment is not financially feasible. Nonetheless, they still want to achieve some improvement in bandwidth to the curb or to the local access point while protecting the investment in their existing copper and/or coaxial plants that goes from the curb to the subscriber premises.

What these service providers need is a hybrid solution that levers the existing copper infrastructure connecting homes and businesses to the network and allows copper and fiber-based services to be mixed on the same shelf, using the same management system.

Our MAGNM™ Multi Media Aggregation Node and the BroadAccess product line delivers these benefits to service providers looking for a cost-effective and reliable hybrid approach. MAGNM scales to support a wide range of access technologies, from legacy T1 and POTS to ultra-broadband xDSL, GPON, and Active Optical Ethernet subscriber connections, all in one integrated system. The BroadAccess supports similar functionalities in a small form factor, with a lower port count for smaller installations.

With Enablence, service providers have the flexibility to evolve their networks at their own pace and drive fiber deeper into the network from the central office to the curb or local access point. Often this coincides with upgrades to faster copper services by the moving from ADSL to VDSL. This dynamic evolution path improves revenue, reduces operating costs and supports the bandwidth-intensive services that drive subscriber penetration and revenue per user with improved network speed and capacity.
