Traditional and Advanced Copper

Charting an Intelligent and Economical Migration Path with Enablence

Given the enormous appetite among subscribers for bandwidth intensive applications both at home and at work, Enablence is of the firm belief that advanced fixed-line optical networks—also called “Fiber to the Premises,” or “FTTP” – are best positioned to address future demand.

While subscriber demand for more bandwidth continues to grow exponentially, it is not accompanied by a willingness to pay additional rates, unless new services are introduced. But the capabilities of dated network equipment and legacy architectures can only be stretched so far before reliability suffers and operating costs escalate. Service providers that continue to rely on traditional narrowband copper networks risk losing their subscribers to competitors who do offer more advanced services at a competitive price.

But not all service providers are ready to make the jump to an all-optical network. For those that are not, Enablence offers its MAGNM™ Multi Media Aggregation Node and BroadAccess to run traditional services such as POTs and ADSL2+ and provide an evolution path to next-generation copper: VDSL2. These platforms can also facilitate an eventual implementation of optical access network segments that can be managed from the same system by adding optical cards.

These intelligent solutions address the needs of service providers whether or not they choose to evolve their network from old TDM and ATM protocols to a Next-Generation Access Network with an all IP/Ethernet core that can maximize the return on their existing outside plant investments. Service providers can introduce improved services while maintaining traditional service packages for some subscribers.

With Enablence, service providers have the flexibility they need to evolve their networks at their own pace and provide basic copper, advanced copper and fiber-based services on the same network. This dynamic evolution path improves revenue, reduces costs and supports the bandwidth-intensive services that drive subscriber penetration and revenue per user with industry-leading speed and capacity.
