What is needed are small, ruggedized testing units that provide local access to information and speed up testing, by screening samples prior to a central lab or replacing the lab test entirely. Portable technology is also crucial to reaching patients in remote areas where access to sufficient healthcare may be lacking.
Enablence’s Planar Lightwave Circuit (PLC) technology offers the superior functionality and ruggedness demanded by this market. Nearly all biophotonic applications require a light source, some wavelength filtering of light, and light detection. All of these functions are routinely implemented on our PLC platforms. We can provide optical filtering, light sources, and detectors, all on a compact and rugged chip that can be mass produced.

Through early collaboration with a leading Canadian university, Enablence has developed modules for the excitation and detection of common flourophores used to tag biological reactions.
