Louis De Jong
Director and Chair of the Board of Directors
Mr. De Jong recently founded and is the Managing Partner of De Jong & Co., a boutique merchant bank engaged in principal investment and financial advisory services. Prior to that, in 2004 he had co-founded and was Managing Director of Jemekk Capital Management Inc., a hedge fund manager on behalf of high net worth and institutional clients focused on small and medium capitalized Canadian companies. From 1998 to 2004 Mr. De Jong was employed by Credit Suisse First Boston where he most recently served as Director and Head of Canadian Equities. Mr. De Jong began his career in the investment business at Sprott Securities Inc. in institutional equity sales.
John Roland was appointed a director of the Company in October 2011. Mr. Roland is a retired senior litigation partner of Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, a major Canadian law firm. At Osler, he served as Chairman of the Litigation Department for 15 years and Chairman of the Billing Committee for 13 years. He was also a member of the Executive Committee for six years. He had a broad commercial litigation practice specializing particularly in corporate governance matters. Since retirement, he has served on a number of boards of volunteer organizations and is a graduate of the Rotman’s Institute of Corporate Directors course. He has also had considerable experience in alternative dispute resolution. Mr. Roland attended McGill University where he earned his Bachelor of Engineering degree and the University of Toronto where he earned his Bachelor of Laws degree.
Jim Seto is currently Vice President, Operations and Supply Chain for Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. He is focused on delivery and execution of the company’s broad mobile semiconductor products. With over 25 years of semiconductor experience, Mr. Seto has many technical, business and strategic responsibilities with the company.
Prior to that, Mr. Seto was Corporate Vice President, Foundry Operations for Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). His responsibilities encompassed the silicon deliverables for the company’s CPU, APU and GPU silicon manufacturing. In 2006, he joined AMD through the acquisition of ATI Technologies. As part of the management team of a Canadian high-tech success stories, he participated in ATI’s initial public offering and helped lead the company to becoming a global company. Throughout his 20 years at ATI/AMD, Mr. Seto has worked in design, product ramp and manufacturing for many of its high volume semiconductor products.
Prior to ATI/AMD, Mr. Seto was a Member of the Scientific Staff at Bell-Northern Research. He holds several US Patents for mixed-mode analog/digital design. Mr. Seto is a graduate of the University of Waterloo (BASc, EE) and earned his Masters in Electrical Engineering from Carleton University. He has been a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario for over 20 years.
Kevin Chu has held various sales and marketing, engineering and operation leadership positions at several public optics companies since 1995. He is currently the Vice President of sales, US at Oplink Communications managing global sales and business development in major and emerging Telecom, Datacom and MSO accounts. Before joining Oplink in 2005, he led product marketing and P&L management of the award-winning micro optics product line at Alliance Fiber Optic Products since 2003. Prior to that, he was marketing application engineering manager at JDS Uniphase from 1995 to 2003. Kevin has 19 years of experiences in the optics industry with extensive knowledge in optical telecommunications, enabling broadband technologies and business intelligence. Kevin received his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from University of Southern California and his M.B.A. from Duke University.
